The Connoisseur’s Waterloo

The Grand Tour of the 1815 Battlefields

 

 

This exclusive Waterloo tour is designed specifically for those who enjoy travelling in style and small, intimate groups. Guests will travel first-class via Eurostar from London Waterloo to Brussels Midi, from where they will travel in superior rooms at the 4-star Grand Hotel, situated close to the battlefield. Here, guests will enjoy à la carte cuisine Guests will also enjoy lunch at the superb Trois Canards restaurant, situated on the fringes of the battlefield. The tour features visits to all major attractions and, of course, the battlefields themselves. Our smaller air-conditioned vehicle will allow us access to parts of the campaign area not visited on our two other tours. The tour is limited to six guests only. A tour to be savoured by all those who enjoy battlefield touring with that extra-special touch of class.

Day 1. Depart 12.41 London Waterloo International for 1st class travel to Brussels Gare du Midi via Eurostar, arriving 16.10. Drive to Le Grand Hotel de Waterloo. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2. Breakfast. This morning we drive south to Quatre Bras where, after visiting the British monument, we get an overview of the battle from just north of Gemioncourt Farm. We then drive east along the Namur road to view the Prussian position at Ligny, from Brye. We visit Ligny itself and St Armand before returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3. Breakfast. We drive to the battlefield and visit the French staging areas, Hougoumont and the Allied ridge. Lunch at the Trois Canards restaurant. We visit La Haye Sainte, Picton’s position, the Chemin de Ohain and Papelotte, and view the main Prussian fighting areas of 18 June. We visit the Prussian Monument at Plancenoit and to La Belle Alliance, before returning to the Allied ridge and the final French attack. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4. Breakfast. We visit Wellington’s headquarters and St Joseph’s church. We then visit Napoleon’s headquarters at Le Caillou before returning to the Visitors Centre area to enjoy the attractions and have lunch. Drive to Brussels for a 17.01 departure on Eurostar, travelling 1st class back to London Waterloo, arriving at 18.27.
