IAN FLETCHER BATTLEFIELD TOURS

CELEBRATING TWENTY YEARS OF BATTLEFIELD TOURS 1998-2018

In 2017 the Civil Aviation Authority changed the regulations relating to the issuing of ATOLs, changes which would have added a considerable increase to the price of each tour. The  CAA has been moving the goalposts for the last few years, making it more difficult each year for small specialist tour operators. As a result we decided not to renew our licence. The main impact of this has meant that we cannot legally sell a package which includes a flight. This does not have too much of an effect as only three tours, Napoleon and Austria, Corunna and the Peninsular War tour, involve flights. We will advise guests on timings and arrival points which will give guests the flexibility to arrange their own flights or use air miles, or whatever. Indeed, guests have often made their own way to the point of arrival, so it’s not exactly a major change. Elsewhere the tours include cross-channel rail crossings. Also, it was found that on tours which involved returning to central London by coach it was far quicker to drop guests off at Ebbsfleet International station, which has a twenty-five minute trip into St Pancras International. This was much faster than having to negotiate the London traffic.
